#16 Conspiracy Theories

In this episode we investigate why conspiracy theories are not taken seriously and how they should be assessed. We touched upon epistemology and explain psychologizing opponents and the genetic fallacy. We explain the legal standards of proof, as well as means, motive and opportunity.

We describe the Sagan Standard as well as its contra-argument. We cover several proven conspiracies, including MK-Ultra, the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, the Manhattan District Experiments and Big Tobacco lies, all while remembering the Milgram Experiment. We explain RICO and mention grand murderers Mao Zedong (along with his Cultural Revolution), Fidel Castro and Pol Pot.

We also cover The Watchtower Society’s failed predictions and recommended Jimmy Akin’s Mysterious World. We referenced 1 Thessalonians 5:21, and Paragraph 2091 of the Catholic Catechism on despair and Divine Law and mentioned the Sliders TV series.
